Explorer HV Review I purchased my Explorer HV in 2005. I am 5′ 11 and 180 lbs. I have been in very rough conditions, like 6′ – 8′ swells, 25 – 30 mph winds, and even 4′ dumping surf in all of the boat models I have owned, and the Explorer is.
The Explorer HV is fitted with the High performance glass seat, unless otherwise requested. The kayak has a low rear deck for easy rolling, a keyhole cockpit that gives excellent grip, control and allows quick exit if need be. The sloping bulkhead behind the seat allows the kayak to be emptied by lifting only the bow, no x-rescue is necessary.
The standard Explorer suits the medium sized paddler, while the Explorer HV is appropriate for the larger paddler. Faster than the Romany family, manoeuvrable and direction stable. It has a large carrying capacity and has been used on a one-month expedition to Antarctica carrying all supplies with no support.

The Explorer-HV is famous the world over as an expedition kayak and shares all the same great attributes as the regular size model. The only difference is cockpit volume. If you have longer or bigger thighs, prefer a slightly more raised leg position or simply need a bit more wriggle room in the cockpit you should try it.
